The Conference will be held at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, the second most ancient (1261) of the six “Scuole Grandi” still active in Venice before the Napoleonic suppression in 1806.
In medieval and Renaissance Venice, Catholic life was deeply influenced by confraternities named “Scuole” (Schools). Each “Scuola” (School) was a charitable association governed by elected lay officials. On the basis of the School Statute, the members were committed to mutual material and spiritual assistance and to works of Christian charity or piety.
